Frequently Asked Questions

In Fall 2024, Illinois Extension updated the Learn @ Illinois Extension login page. The new login system requires all users to have an Extension User Account. For most of our users who had created accounts between 2020 - mid-2024, this requires creating an Extension User Account. Please see the items below to learn more about this change.

Why are you moving to this new system?

This unified account allows you to manage all Illinois Extension apps in one place. This can include one or more of the following:

  • Volunteer application
  • Learn @ Illinois Extension courses
  • and more to come

I have a Learn @ Illinois Extension account. How can I access the Learn @ Illinois Extension site after September 30, 2024 if I have not yet created my Extension User Account?

Not to worry. There are two ways to create your Extension User Account.

  1. Check your email for a message from uie-learn-admin@illinois.edu. The email will have a link you can use to claim your account.
  2. Create your account. You must use the same email address that you use in the Learn @ Illinois Extension system when you set up the account.

What information will be required when I claim my new account?

  • First name
  • Last name
  • Email address
  • Create password
  • Birth date
  • Address

Why do we collect address, phone, and other personal information?

The University of Illinois Extension collects personal information to ensure that we are providing programs to a wide range of participants. The address information is used in reporting to the federal government and to ensure that we are providing programs to a wide range of participants. This information will not be used to identify any program participants.

For volunteers, the information is used during the application process. The phone number is crucial to the interview process for new volunteers and helps our Extension staff stay connected with our volunteers.

Will I lose my existing course enrollments and progress?

The key to connecting the two accounts is to use the email address you use for the Learn @ Illinois Extension account, when you create your Extension User account. When you use the “get started with your Extension User Account” link that was emailed to you or the link on your dashboard, the email field will be prefilled.

How do I get back to my Extension User Account profile from Learn @ Illinois Extension?

Go to account.extension.illinois.edu

Are the Extension User profile and the Learn @ Illinois Extension profile the same thing?

Not exactly. When you create your Extension User Account profile, the information provided synchs with the Learn @ Illinois Extension profile but in your Learn @ Illinois Extension profile you can also see information related to your course enrollments.

Where do I update profile data (for example, if you mistype your last name)?

Please update this information in the Extension User profile.

Can I remove my account?

Yes, you can archive your account from the profile page. Doing so will remove your access to all the services provided by the University of Illinois Extension, including Learn @ Extension and it will deactivate your volunteer account if you have one.
